Find connections between the job listing and your resume
Cross-reference your resume with the job description to help you connect the dots between the two. Where there’s overlap, build out a library of examples that you can draw from during the interview (and practice delivering them). Having these examples ready for discussion will help you on the interview day.
Look back at past work experiences
Look back on your past work experience and make sure you’re prepared to talk about past accomplishments and lessons you’ve learned along the way. We love hearing about your achievements and thought processes.
Many of the questions we ask will be along the lines of “Tell me about a time when…” or “How would you approach this situation…?”
Showcase your strategic thinking
When we’re talking with you about your work and the role, express your ideas, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to work through the problem with us. In many cases, our questions are designed to leave room for clarification, and your first answer might need some refining and further explanation. Are you making an assumption? Going deep instead of broad, or vice versa? Tell your interviewer that and explain why you’re making that call.
It’s not just about giving the ‘right’ answer — the interviewer will be looking to see the thought process versus the answer itself. Expect some follow-up questions to help them learn more.
STAR method: Using a behavioral interview technique like the STAR approach for your specific examples can help structure your answers.
- Situation: Describe the situation you were in or the task you needed to accomplish
- Task: Explain the goal you were working toward
- Activity: Detail the specific steps you took and the role(s) you played
- Result: Describe your accomplishments and the overall outcome
Our behavioral questions are meant to elicit specific examples over “I always do X,” so again, preparing a broad library of examples is key. Also keep in mind that you have limited time during the interview, so try to craft concise narratives while covering all the important information for your examples.
